Settle Church trails
Monday 25 July, 7pm – High Society Scandal
Newspapers and gossips have always liked a bit of scandal, haven’t they? Especially if it applied to the upper classes. It was just the same in 19th century Craven – this is High Society Scandal!
Monday 1 August, 7pm – Eccentrics and Entrepreneurs
To be successful the greatest inventors need to do something a bit different and run a great business – it’s often an advantage to be a little eccentric and a great entrepreneur. This trail has some of our best!
Monday 8th August, 7pm – Mishaps and Mistakes
Some people are just unlucky! In the 19th century there were far more ways to be caught out than there are today. This trail gives us several brilliant (and sometimes hilarious) examples.
Monday 15th August, 7pm – Sportswomen and a few men
Sportswomen were few and far between in the 19th century but we’ve found some unexpected stars and some lesser known sportsmen too. Trophies at the ready!
Monday 22 August, 7pm – Artists and Artistes
Incredibly, from this little graveyard we find internationally famous artist/es, national artist/es, local artist/es and we have a few wonderfully artistic temperaments thrown in too. Prepare to be entertained by our Artists and Artistes!
Settle Church, Church Street Settle, BD24 9JA. If arriving by car, parking is available at the Coop opposite the church.
Giggleswick Church trail
Monday 29th August, 2.30pm – Railways, rivers and robbery!
It’s well known the railways brought more people and trade to the area. This trail discovers some of the new opportunities, hazards and attitudes that arrived too!
Giggleswick Parish Church, Church Street, BD24 0BE. If arriving by car, please park considerately in the village.
Access
Chairs will be available if needed and refreshments will be provided afterwards by church volunteers, donations are much appreciated.
The graveyard trails are run outside in the graveyards so you should wear shoes with closed toes and wear clothes appropriate to the weather, hot or cold. Don’t forget drinks and sunscreen in hot weather. The trails will involve walking on gravel paths and grass. (There is usually an indoor alternative in the case of bad weather).
Places are free but limited to 30 for each trail so register early by phoning 015242 51002 or emailing info@ydmt.org with contact details and preferred dates, or leaving your details at The Folly. Your place will be confirmed soon afterwards. Donations will be appreciated and will go to local charities
