Heritage Open Days: What is a Museum?

When

Sat, 7 September 2024. 11am-4pm

Description

What is a Museum? We explore this question using our collection and invite people to open up the boxes and get involved!

All museums have more things than they can possibly display… but what do they do with all that stuff?

We are at the start of an exciting new project to really understand our collections at the Museum of North Craven Life, generously funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, so come along and get involved.

Visitors can…

– pack and unpack a museum box, and see some of the weird and wonderful items we don’t have on display
– find out about long-term storage of materials and how we make sure our artefacts are preserved for the future
– try photographing some museum items using our studio set up
– chat to our volunteers about their favourite objects
– help us identify places and even faces from the past using our historic photography collections
