New Date: Love Your Old Building with Heritage Builder Kevin Woods
Sat, 19 March 2022. 10am-4pm
The Folly’s builder, Kevin, will explain how problems can arise in old buildings and what techniques are suitable to repair them, using a mixture of case studies and practical examples in The Folly’s garden.
The day will cover lime plasters, lime pointing and lime render, as well as demonstrations of traditional walling techniques and mortar mixing.
Kevin will also talk about what to look for when choosing your own professional.
Kevin has been in the building trade since leaving school at 16. He is now the owner of Woodsbuild Heritage, and has trained multiple apprentices, including his own son, Callum, to make sure heritage building skills are kept alive. Examples of his work locally can be seen at The Folly (front elevation repointing); Norton Tower (consolidation of the structure); and the lead mine chimneys at Hurst in Swaledale (restoration of the historic structure).
Kevin says “This year we celebrate being in business for twenty years, hopefully we hope to continue caring for old buildings for many more years. We really enjoy the work we do and find it so rewarding to preserve and work on some of the oldest buildings in Yorkshire and Lancashire.”
Questions for Kevin or requests to cover specific problems can be submitted in advance to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Teas, coffees and lunch will be provided.
We can cater for gluten free and vegan diets. Please contact us to discuss any specific dietary requirements- we will provide for you if we possibly can.
This workshop will take place on the Folly’s ground and first floors and gardens, which have level access for wheelchairs but are uneven in places. We have a disabled toilet on the ground floor.
