Description

The graveyard project is running ‘Mischief in the Navvy Hut’ at Batty Green at Ribblehead.  It’s an engaging, atmospheric and light-hearted celebration of the ups and downs in the life of the navvy and his family.  There are some hilarious antics alongside the hard knocks and tragedies that make the headlines. One visitor said it is ‘a fascinating look at navvy life at Ribblehead. Bags of deeply researched fact, combined with sauciness, humour and delight.’

It will run every Wednesday in August, 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st starting and finishing at Ribblehead Station.  It begins at 12.15 and lasts just over an hour.  Conveniently the 11.51 train from Settle arrives at 12.07. It is being run as part of the Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line’s Heritage Days. ‘Ribblehead: Footsteps in Time’ includes a number of walks and talks to make a day of it, to suit everyone — railway enthusiasts, photographers, geologists and walkers with the comfort of the visitor centre at the Station too.  Please check the information on the FoSCL website, foscl.org.uk before you travel.  Please remember it’s always chilly at Ribblehead so take an extra layer!
