Description

Join us at The Folly for our Horner Celebration Day!

The Folly is home to almost 2000 historic photographs taken by the Horner family at their photography studio in Settle over the span of almost a hundred years. The photographs show how life has evolved in this area over time.

Our volunteers have worked alongside staff and photographic experts to scan, digitise, repack and research the collection. Local community groups have created cyanotype prints using Horner photographs which have been stitched into a quilt which will go on display in the Horner Room at the museum.

On the day there will be:

  • Wet plate photography demonstrations

Tony Richards will be taking portraits using 19th century photographic methods. Step back in time and witness photography as it would have been in Settle’s Horner Studio!

  • Unveiling of our Horner Community Quilt

Local community groups have been creating cyanotype prints using Horner photographs, drawings, foliage and writing. We have stitched these prints into a quilt which we will unveil in our Horner Room.

  • Opportunities to browse the online catalogue

Explore almost 2000 Horner Photographs through our online catalogue.

Please note that Tony won’t be taking photographic orders on the day. All photo slots have been reserved for our community partners and volunteers.
