Description

Author Sarah Lister and illustrator Teresa Gordon will be signing copies of their new book, Meandering Down the Ribble, Born and Bred in the Long Preston Floodplain.

The book describes an incredible journey down the Ribble from Settle and Giggleswick to Rathmell, Wigglesworth, with a stop off at the Plough Inn of course, and then to Long Preston, visiting families who lived there in bygone days.  It is published by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and beautifully illustrated by Teresa Gordon.

Numerous descendants and local history groups have contributed information and photos to bring these ancestors to life.  Far from a quiet life in the countryside, you can definitely expect criminals and scandals, but also international heroes and heroines.  Just as the Ribble meanders its way through hazards, floods and drought, these people had to be savvy, resourceful and lucky to navigate the perils of the 19th century.  The book is a gentle meander through their lives, and discovers that almost everyone is related to everyone else!
