Dr Buck’s House open morning

When
Tue, 7 July 2026. Drop in between 10-11am
Description
We are gathering local views on the future of Dr Buck’s House.
Built in 1789, the house has had many functions over the years. Most notably, it was the home of Dr Charles Buck (1851-1932), lifelong friend of composer Sir Edward Elgar, whose frequent visits to Settle for around two decades from 1882 are commemorated by a plaque on the building. The house is now in urgent need of repair.
The trust bought the building in 2023 and are fundraising to renovate the ground floor as a free-to-enter cultural space and gallery, and the upper floors as apartments for local residents.
What would you like to see happen to this space? Drop in to see the main reception room and take part in a short survey. Your feedback will help us show local support and opinions as we plan for the future of the building.
We will be open from 10:00am to 11:am on the following Tuesday mornings in July: 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th.
Address: Market Place, Settle, BD24 9EF. Dr Buck’s House is between Field to Home and Car and Kitchen.
No booking needed, just drop by.
