Description

Join us in the railway room for a fun craft activity. Have a go at making your own ‘rag rug’ brooch
using a hessian square and beautiful sustainable offcuts from blankets produced right here in
Yorkshire.

Rag rugging is an old British craft using recycled fabrics pulled in small pieces or hooked in
strips through hessian backing to create a shaggy or loop pile effect. Traditionally used to make
rugs it can be used to make wearable jewellery and art.

This activity is aimed at children aged 7-11 but it would be an ideal opportunity for parents,
grandparents or carers to share their love of heritage crafts with the younger generation and
show them how it’s done!

Children must be supervised at all times.

This event is funded by Arts Council England and is free for everyone.

*Please be aware that these are drop in events and you do not need to book. However
space is limited and at busy times you may need to wait.
