As work has progressed, an unexpected issue with the stability of the joists at first floor level has been discovered, which has to be resolved before public access can be safely restored.
To make sure the building is restored to the highest conservation standards, we are taking the time to address the issue in consultation with Historic England, our Conservation Officer and our architects.
As a result, the Museum will now reopen in 2027 rather than later this year.
The good news is that The Folly Coffee House remains completely unaffected and is open as usual, serving great coffee, homemade cakes, lunches and cream teas from Monday to Saturday, 10am-4pm.
We will also be running more outreach events: look out for Meet The Museum in Ingleton, and open days at Dr Buck’s House and Zion Chapel for Heritage Open Days in September.
We know many of you have been looking forward to visiting the Museum again, and we share your disappointment. However, taking the time to get the restoration right will help ensure this remarkable Grade I listed building can be enjoyed for generations to come.
