Research enquiries

Short enquiries (e.g. family history, house history)

We receive a large number of enquiries relating to family and local history in the North Craven area that do not require physical access to the collections on site. We are happy to help with these, although we cannot guarantee that we will have information in our collections on your topic. To maximise your chances of finding relevant information, we recommend that you also contact other organisations, including the Settle Graveyard Project, the Dales Countryside Museum and North Yorkshire County Record Office and Archive Service.

The first 30 minutes of staff research time is provided free of charge. Subsequent research time will be charged at £15 per hour. At our discretion, we may waive fees for students and others on application.
Please email us via the contact form and your request will be passed to a member of the collections team.

Research access in person

All visits to the collection must be arranged in advance and are subject to staff availability. Please contact us to make a preliminary enquiry.

We will ask you to provide some information about your area of research in advance. You will also be asked to agree to the conditions for access to the collections before your visit to ensure that the material in our care is kept safe and in good condition.
